Non Stop Portals is dedicated to a process of continuous improvement through project management. Developing documented processes that will adapt as we learn from every project is an important to achieve ongoing improvement. Our experiences as project managers and trainers have helped to understand that every project has some element of risk. Even small projects have risk.
Our experienced developers and project managers have worked with teams on a wide variety of projects. Many, but not all, have been information technology implementations. As a result we have gained a lot of insight as to what works well and what could have been done better.
Why do projects fail?
The Standish Group has published many studies on project failures. The results of their studies are in line with my experiences. Poorly defined requirements is a primary contributor to project failure. The bottom line is a disconnect between what the customer needs to solve their business problem and the proposed technical solution.
Naturally, we believe that it is important that we focus on your business problem when designing a technical solution. The first key deliverable in our projects is a written high level scope of work. The goal is to define an understanding of your problems, the project plan, and costs.
The Agile Manifesto
Agile is a framework that has been developed and refined over the last 10-15 years to help improve project success rates. The concepts focus on enabling the project team to continuously improve their performance using Lean Manufacturing principles of eliminating waste.
The Agile Manifesto recognized traditional software development practices tended to focus too much on upfront detailed project planning and design. The solution put forth was to focus on enough planning and design to start delivering working software quickly.
Project Software
Improving your processes is much move than simply implementing a software package. After you have developed new processes, a software package can help to communicate team status. We have hands-on experience implementing several popular project management software packages, including Microsoft Project Enterprise Server.
